St. Augustine Horseback Riding
 Throughout the state of Florida, horseback riding and equestrian interests abound as several areas throughout the state have had a long tradition of breeding, training and boarding horses. The Indians and the Spanish settlers that colonized the city used horses and a variety of breeds of ponies to carry out their daily activities and Florida ranchers developed their own style of herding and training these animals.
In keeping with that tradition today, St. John’s County and the St. Augustine region are home to some phenomenal stables, breeders and equestrian centers. In 2001, over 120 acres of St. Augustine horseback riding trails were opened, making this region of Florida a spectacular place to enjoy horseback riding. In addition to the many trails, many of the area’s beaches allow horseback riding during the off season.
