One unique festival St. Augustine offers is Concerts in the Plaza. The 2008 season starts the first Thursday night in April and
continues with concerts every Thursday at 7:00pm through the month of April with special holiday concerts on Memorial Day and Labor Day. Concerts in the Plaza brings a wide variety of musical styles to St. Augustine’s historic downtown, ranging from bluegrass and country to jazz and popular rock. All concerts are free of charge. This is definitely the best way to spend a Thursday night in St. Augustine.
During the holidays St. Augustine hosts Nights of Lights. More than two million white lights help to create a truly magical holiday atmosphere that traces its origins back to the Spanish tradition of displaying a lighted white candle during the Christmas holidays. There are a variety of special activities that take place during Nights of Lights. Nighttime tours of historic buildings and inns are led by storytellers in period clothing, trains and trolleys tour through the narrow brick streets, and art walks featuring more than 30 galleries serve free holiday refreshments. On Saturday nights there are special night antique shopping events. There is even Christmas
parade and ice skating in St. Augustine during Nights of Lights. The festival lasts all through the holidays until January 31st.
The Gamble Rogers Festival is a folk music festival that takes place in May of each year in St. Augustine FL. Named for the legendary singer/songwriter Gamble Rogers from Winter Park FL, Gamblefest is a 3 day celebration featuring folk artists from all over the nation. Rogers lived in St. Augustine and became a famous folk artist with his songs and stories about Oklawaha County. He died tragically in 1991 while trying to save a drowning tourist off the waters of Flagler Beach. The Gamble Rogers Festival is dedicated to ensuring the memory, music, and stories of Gamble Rogers remain an important part of Florida folk music tradition.
