St. Augustine FL Alligator Farm
The St. Augustine Alligator FL Farm and Zoological Park is a famous
attraction and a favorite among many visitors to St. Augustine. For
over a century the alligator farm has entertained millions that have
came through its doors, which opened to the public in 1893.
The St. Augustine Alligator FL Farm and zoological park features Maximo, a 1,250
pound saltwater crocodile, the largest crocodile in the park, who is
from Australia. Visitors can get an up close look at Maximo when
they view him through the underwater tank viewing windows. Also at
the alligator farm, visitors will find albino alligators, who are
very rare and from the Louisiana bayous. Legend has it that if you
gaze into the eyes of the albinos, you will receive plenty of good
fortune. Be sure to stop by their exhibit at the St. Augustine
alligator farm.
In addition to the crocodiles and alligators, the St. Augustine
FL Alligator Farm is also home to the wading bird exhibit, which
features birds like herons, egrets, ibis, spoonbills, and wood
storks that come to roost in the native swamp exhibit. From April
thru July, the birds are in mating season and are building nests
right in front of visitors. Visitors also have a chance to watch
South American toucans and parrots, Australian kookaburras and emus,
Asian pheasants, and African turacos, which are all on display in
the exotic bird exhibit. There are seven different species of
endangered species of monkeys also featured in a mammal exhibit.
Be sure to visit this place on the National Historic Register, and
one of St. Augustine’s favorite attractions! The St. Augustine
FL Alligator Farm and zoological park is a always a family favorite and
a great way to get up close to rare and exotic animals. |
